Forget planking. This week’s featured photos are all about stacking. “Material World” by David Welch.
I instantly fell in love with this behind-the-scene film, capturing legendary Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki’s shoot for the second issue of Tokyo-based style magazine The Reality Show. A slew of models, actors, artists and street-fashonistas came together, mixing their own wardrobes with the latest collections from Western designers, including Lanvin, Balenciaga and Tom Ford.
I love real people wearing real clothes, mix-matching with their own style. Often known for his erotic photos incorporating kinbaku (the art of Japanese rope tying), Araki’s shoot is both chic and provocative. This shoot captures the essence of Japan’s next wave cult fashion.

Erotic Mix & Match

For the past few Foto Friday’s I’ve featured various fun and whimsical photos. For this week’s feature, I want to take it back a notch and showcase some works by John Battaglia. The eariness of black and white photography always lures me in. Words isn’t necessarily to describe John’s photos. Simply put, John collects people.
This is by far the best installation piece I’ve come across this year. This piece is titled Confetti Death by Miami based graffiti artist Typoe. Produced from shattered spray can caps, the colorful installation gives off the imagery of Confetti splashing through the mouth of a skull. More can be seen at Typoe’s Flickr page.

Confetti Death
This is by far the best installation piece I’ve come across this year. This piece is titled Confetti Death by Miami based graffiti artist Typoe. Produced from shattered spray can caps, the colorful installation gives off the imagery of Confetti splashing through the mouth of a skull. More can be seen at Typoe’s Flickr page.

Interesting circular patch fabric contrast on the chest of this plaid shirt by visvim.
Jil Sander kicks up this classic derby shoe a notch by introducing an in-your-face pink florescent sole. Didn’t you know real men wears pink? Available now at oki-ni.
Follow up to their successful leather accessories, Robertu introduces their own leather Chukka boots. Available later this September.
I remember a time when some friends and I made our own custom denim AF1. This here is from Nike’s Summer 2011 footwear collection.
It’s a great season to be shopping for shirts. Afterall, aside from tees and shirts, there isn’t many other options when the summer heat arrives. This subcrew shirt features very minimal aesthetics with a nice touch of horizontal stripes across the bottom half. Available through UNITY stores and select retailers.
A reiteration of the classic Rider’s jacket by BAL in collaboration with Cyder House introduces a leopard-patterned tweed body with leather sleeves and detailings. Available for pre-order at ZOZOTOWN.
Recently I have been drawn to home decor & furniture designs. This matchstick lamp by designer Sam Thompson and electrical engineer Zack Shivers is great for any hipster. Constructed from a single piece of solid maple blank and limited to 28 pieces.
